NAIDOC week is usually observed in the first week of July every year. This year NAIDOC was celebrated from 4-11 July.
NAIDOC week is an important week in our national calendar. It is a time to pause and celebrate the history, culture and achievements of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples. NAIDOC is celebrated not only in Indigenous communities but by Australians from all walks of life. You can participate in a range of activities to support your local Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander community.
Each year there is a NAIDOC theme and in 2021 this was Heal Country!
Heal Country! calls for all of us to continue to seek greater protections for our lands, our waters, our sacred sites and our cultural heritage from exploitation, desecration, and destruction. This is more important than ever as we face the growing climate change challenges and look towards solutions to address this issue.
